SQL Database Administrator

Team of two, on call every other month
Size of environment: 10-20 Terabytes

Primary Duties and Responsibilities (details of the basic job functions):
Serves as a team leader/senior technical team member in the planning, designing, developing, implementing, and/or supporting complex to moderately complex new or revised processes, systems, or networks. Acts as an acknowledged expert in one or more technical specialties and/or mission critical application systems, and provides leadership in design, development and application integration. Ensures functional and technical designs support customer requirements. Develops an understanding of the Auto Club Group business strategy and competitive environment and translate and implements business strategies into technology solutions. Provides a high degree of technical and/or application expertise and design/programming leadership. Assists Security team in the development of appropriate audit controls and procedures to ensure the integrity and protection of company resources. Develops work plans and estimates projects and ensures that project team(s) and/or plan deliverables remain on schedule and budget.

This position is responsible for all enterprise databases to ensure integrity, security, performance, accessibility, and recoverability of data. Assists in end-to-end plan design, controls production, and monitors database systems. Monitors policies, procedures and standards relating to database management and security.
” Provide database and production support for all SQL Server Databases ensuring database integrity, security and availability
” Perform system monitoring, backups and restores, proactive database maintenance, database tuning and application of software patches
” Perform reviews on the design and code frequently to ensure the site standards are being adhered to
” Data Extraction, Transformation and Loading (ETL) responsibilities
” Assist in designing database structure layouts (physical and logical)
” Assist in developing database specifications, documentation
” Administer all database objects, including tables, clusters, indexes, views, sequences, DTS packages and stored procedures
” Provide technical assistance to developers
” Assist in capacity planning, system upgrade responsibilities
” Resolve and escalate issues as appropriate


” 5+ year’s successful database administration experience using Microsoft SQL 2005 or later in a fast paced, large-scale environment
” Microsoft Certified Database Administrator (MCDBA) preferred
” Experience with OLAP and data warehouse design and implementation a plus
” Experience with database resiliency design, implementation and maintenance
” Experience with data acquisition/data loading tools and process
” Strong interpersonal, communication (written and oral), and time management skills required
” Must be self-motivated, possess a strong level of initiative and have ability to achieve results with minimal guidance
” Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
” Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment

Required Qualifications (these are the minimum requirements to qualify):

” Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field or an equivalent level of work experience

” Designing, developing, implementing, supporting and securing complex to moderately complex information systems
” Building or supporting distributed systems
” Identifying, analyzing and resolving complex business/technical problems
” Technology assessment, recommendations and selection
” Providing technical consultation/leadership to project teams
” Coordinating/leading a large project team or a variety of small project teams
” Web-based system design and development
” Database management systems (Oracle, SQL Server)
” Reporting and data analysis platforms (SSRS, SSAS, SSIS)
” PC fundamental software tools (e.g. MS Office)
” Programming languages (e.g. T-SQL, XML, JAVA, HTML, C++)
” Prototyping
” Database design
” Project management tools and techniques
” Multi-platform capabilities
” User interaction
” HTML and web development tools
” System development and monitoring solutions (e.g. SQL Spotlight, Lightspeed, Linkpad, Visual Studio)
